Consultant Urology

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough urology patient consultations in both inpatient and outpatient settings, performing clinical evaluations involving comprehensive history-taking and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose urological conditions using laboratory investigations and radiological studies.
  • Formulate urological management plans, providing guidance on conservative, medical, and surgical treatment options.
  • Plan and assess urological patients preoperatively and perform urological surgical procedures.
  • Perform urological endoscopy procedures for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
  • Teach urology subspecialty topics to residents and medical interns.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects within the urology and surgery departments, focusing on enhancing patient safety, outcomes, and satisfaction, including involvement in mortality and morbidity conferences.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, surgeons, and nephrologists, to develop comprehensive patient management plans.
  • Advocate for patients' rights and access to urological surgeries.
  • Provide urological emergency services and perform emergency surgeries.
  • Diagnose and manage urological cancers (prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular) using a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Evaluate and guide treatment and surgical management of urinary stones reconstructive urology (urethral strictures, hypospadias).
  • Evaluate and guide treatment and surgical management in andrology (male infertility, erectile disorders).
  • Evaluate and guide treatment and surgical management of urinary diseases including BPH, incontinence, neuro-urology, and pediatric urology.
  • Perform advanced minimally invasive urological surgeries.
  • Engage in community outreach programs to raise awareness of urological health and diseases.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate urological service provision, including donors, urologists, and surgical societies.
  • Assume leadership roles within the surgical department and hospital to contribute to service provision and institutional vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s Degree in Urology (M. Med) from a recognized university.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Valid practicing license from KMPDC.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
