Consultant Nephrology
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases.
- Conduct specialist nephrology outpatient clinics.
- Provide inpatient nephrology consultations across all hospital departments.
- Manage patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), nephrotic syndrome, glomerular diseases, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and inherited renal diseases.
- Develop individualized patient treatment plans.
- Interpret laboratory and imaging investigations relevant to renal diseases.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care for renal patients.
- Participate in emergency nephrology services and on-call duties.
- Oversee haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services.
- Assess and prepare patients for renal replacement therapy.
- Monitor dialysis adequacy and patient outcomes.
- Manage dialysis-related complications.
- Develop dialysis treatment protocols.
- Ensure quality assurance within dialysis services.
- Collaborate in procurement and maintenance planning for dialysis equipment.
- Assess patients for kidney transplant eligibility.
- Participate in transplant evaluation clinics.
- Manage pre-transplant and post-transplant care.
- Monitor immunosuppressive therapy.
- Coordinate with transplant surgeons and multidisciplinary transplant teams.
- Promote evidence-based nephrology practice.
- Participate in clinical audits.
- Investigate adverse clinical events.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety standards.
- Develop renal care pathways and clinical protocols.
- Train medical officers, interns, residents, and students.
- Conduct Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions.
- Mentor junior clinicians.
- Support competency development within the renal unit.
- Participate in clinical research.
- Publish scientific work where applicable.
- Promote evidence-based clinical practice.
- Introduce innovations that improve renal care services.
Requirements
- At least three (3) years' experience practicing as a Nephrologist in a recognized hospital.
- Experience managing dialysis services.
- Experience in kidney transplant care is an added advantage.
- Experience in teaching and research is desirable.
